Objective

  • This drill is designed to lengthen a pitcher's stride (getting further down the mound) as well as enforce forward momentum at all times during the delivery.

Equipment

  • Towel
  • Bench/ Back of Chair/ or Ledge
  • Wall

Description

  • This drill can be done anywhere as well as at any time during a season.
  • To begin, pitcher paces out distance (stride + 5). This is done by simply going through the normal stride then counting out five more steps after the landing point.
  • Once distance is determined, pitcher returns to starting position and coach/partner kneels down with glove in hand opposite him/her.

Tips

  • Start with a staggered stance (toe to arch)..
  • Bend knees and lean into front foot.
  • Lift, come out, with glove out (never going backward).
  • Keep eyes fixed on target.
  • Do one-legged reps after missing (video 2).
  • Start with shoulder against a wall to ensure that there is no backward momentum.
