The purpose of this drill is to develop fly ball communication and overall ball awareness between players.
Equipment
Baseballs (5-10)
Gloves
Pitching Machine (optional)
Description
Have two players stand together in the outfield.
The coach(s) then throws two consecutive fly balls in their direction.
The players' job is to communicate and determine who will go after which ball, then execute proper catches.
Tips
To do this drill, coaches can either throw the fly balls, hit fly balls with a fungo (this requires good bat control), or use a pitching machine that is tilted to shoot fly balls. Whichever technique is used will determine how far a coach needs to be from the players receiving the ball.
Have other players waiting in partner off to the side.
