This drill provides young players with an opportunity to practice running out singles, doubles, and triples.
This drill also focuses on getting runners to pick up base coaches for pass balls and stretching out extra base hits.

Cones
Organize players into one line at home plate.
Each player takes a phantom swing and runs out of the box heading for first base.
Progressions are as follows:
Single - straight through the bag (Video 1)
Straight through the bag - pass ball (Video 2)
Single - agressive turn in (Video 3)
Double - stand up (Video 4)
Double - pick up coach and hold (Video 5)
Triple - stand up (Video 6)
Emphasize to runner to touch the bases properly (see Skill Outline)
This is a good drill to do at the end of a practice because of the conditioning factor.
Timing is a major factor when teaching kids to run through this drill properly.
Be sure to pay close attention to when runners should leave home plate for each progression to avoid players running into one another.
