Objective

  • To learn how to get into the proper throwing postition to each base by concentrating on the lower half of the body.

Equipment

  • Full catcher's gear is recommended (mask necessary)
  • Pitching machine
  • Baseballs

Description

  • Set up a pitching machine in front of the pitchers mound, approximately 15 to 20 feet away from home plate. The catcher starts in their regular position to receive the ball.
  • In rounds of three, the catcher recieves each ball from the machine and moves his body towards the designated base to simulate a throw.

Tips

  • Concentrate on technique first, not speed. One the athlete starts feeling comfotable, speed up the drill.
  • To make the drill more complicated, add a hitter so the catcher has to throw around them.
