Catching equipment
Set up a pitching machine in front of the pitchers mound, approximately 15 to twenty feet away from home plate.
The catcher starts in their regular position to receive the ball.
Phase 1: The catcher sets up behind the plate while the feeder of the machine places six to eight baseballs in succession.
Phase 2: The catcher sets up on the plate for six to eight baseballs.
Phase 3: The catcher sets up two to three feet in front of the plate
At the beginning of each phase, allow the catcher to receive a couple of baseballs before the rapid fire.
An adjustment of the machine may need to be done after each phase so the baseball is in the strike zone.
Start the speed of the baseball at slow and continue to increase the speed as the players become comfortable with the drill
