Objective

  • Become familiar with and increase transfer speed of the ball from the glove to the throwing hand and also to work on throwing accuracy of short tosses and flips.

Equipment

  • Gloves
  • 1-2 Baseballs

Description

  • Establish a triangle with three players facing the middle approximately 6 to 8 feet apart.
  • First throwing in one direction have the players flip the ball simulating a double play ball hit close around the base.
  • Change direction allowing for backhand flips from all players.

Tips

  • Start with a relatively small distance between the players, moving further and further back.. As the distance increases between the players the throwing mechanics must change.
  • Make sure the players are staying low during the execution of the toss/flip. If a player does not stay low through the flip, the baseball with miss the target high.
  • Predetermine a spot of the body that everybody is trying to aim for (for example, the throwing shoulder).
