Objective

  • This is a great minor game that gives players an opportunity to practice throwing and catching while in motion.
  • It also provides coaches with a fun and productive means for conditioning the team.

Equipment

  • Baseballs (3-4)
  • Gloves
  • Bases
  • L-Screen
  • Bats
  • Helmets (3-4)

Description

  • Ultimate Baseball is very similar to the real game of Ultimate that is played with a Frisby/Disc.
  • Two teams of 4 or more players.
  • A rectangular shape with endzones at each end (see diagram). The size of the field should be determined by both the number and physical ability of the players.

    Rules:

  • Initiate Play - Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective endzone line. The defense throws the ball to the offense.
  • Scoring - Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense's endzone, the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.
  • Movement of the Ball - The ball may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate.
  • Players may not run with the ball. The person with the ball ("thrower") has ten seconds to throw the ball. The defender guarding the thrower ("marker") counts out the stall count.
  • Change of possession - When a pass is incomplete (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the ball and becomes the offense.
  • No-contact - No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made.
  • Fouls - When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs and the offense is rewarded 10 yards.

Tips

  • For players who are inexperienced or have a low skill level, it may be a good idea to use Incrediballs or Softees.
