Objective

  • Understand the concept of moving your feet to get into a better position rather than reaching for the ball with your arms.
  • Establish proper footwork.

Equipment

  • Baseballs (6 - 8).
  • Glove
  • Cones

Description

  • Have the player line-up facing the coach approximately 10 to 15 feet away.
  • The player runs around the cone directly to one side.
  • The coach tosses the ball into the air leading the player further to one side.
  • The player must continue of move their feet and field the ball between their shoulders, not reaching for the ball.
  • The ball is tossed back to the coach on completion of the drill.

Tips

  • Have the players start slowly for the first couple of times gradually increasing the speed of execution.
  • Increase the distance of the tosses gradually to promote the footwork, completion of the toss does not have to be made all the time.
