Objective

  • To allow the first baseman and outfielders to practice performing a cutoff.
  • To allow the first baseman catcher to practice their communication.

Equipment

  • Baseballs
  • Gloves
  • Bases
  • Fungo

Description

  • Place the outfielders in right field and hit ground balls through the infield at them.
  • Once the ball leaves the infield, have the first baseman come in to make the cut off home.
  • The coach should perform the drill standing at home plate with a catcher.

Tips

  • Start off with hitting the ball straight at outfielders, however, to make the drill harder hit the balls so that the outfielders have to range for them.
  • Hit ball that are just beyond the reach of the first baseman so they have to leave their feet to try and catch it, then recover to the cut off area in time.
