Develop proper footwork around the bag through repetition.
Have players become comfortable with baseballs directed at them at all different angles.

Description
Have players line up just off of first base in their regular starting position.
The coach is placed approximately 40 to 50 feet away with a fungo bat.
The drill is initiated by the coach verbalizing “go.” The first baseman waits on the bag and anticipates the throw (which is actually a hit ball with a fungo bat) across the diamond.
The coach hits the ball in the direction of the base. The ball must not get by the first baseman.
Tips
The ball can be hit with different types of velocities and directions. If the ball is not on line with the bag the first baseman must come off the bag to field the ball and then make an attempt to place a tag on the runner or touch the bag.
