Objective

  • Become familiar with coming off the bag and making a tag on the base runner

Equipment

  • Baseballs
  • Gloves
  • Bases

Description

  • The first baseman should be on the base with a partner approximately 15 to 20 feet away.
  • The throws should be made down the line towards home plate forcing the first baseman to come off the bag.
  • The first baseman should catch the baseball and make a tagging motion in the direction of the runner.

Tips

  • Involve a base runner coming down the line to add some pressure on the first baseman to make the play.
  • Make sure the first baseman concentrates on catching the baseball first and then trying to make the tag.
