Objective

  • Become familiar with throwing on the run to a stationary target.

Equipment

  • Baseballs (6-8)
  • Cones
  • Gloves

Description

  • Have players line up single file approximately 10 to 15 feet in front of a cone.
  • One player should start as a first baseman approximately 30 to 40 feet away from the cone.
  • The players start with a ball in their glove, run around the cone and throw the ball on an angle to the first baseman.
  • The ball is then thrown back to the player who just completed the drill.

Tips

  • Have the players start slowly running past the cone to become comfortable with throwing on the run. Once this is established increase the speed at which the players run past the cone.
  • Instruct the players to throw the ball on the outfield side of the first baseman, (or the right shoulder of the target), this will compensate for the drift of the ball caused by the momentum of the thrower
